Education is key in helping to break the cycle of poverty. Elma School Cambodia provides schooling based on the formal government Khmer curriculum from pre-school to grade 4.

Sponsoring a student’s education gives them access to formal Khmer education. Some families would not send their children to school or would not send them regularly if not for this support.

With more than three million people visiting Siem Reap City each year, English competency increases the students’ future employment opportunities. Few government schools provide this service consistently and private schools charge high fees, which most Cambodian families are unable to afford.

Importantly, in a country where free medical attention is practically non-existent and where people die from treatable ailments, your sponsorship funds will also provide the student with full support and access to Elma Cambodia’s free school health centre,  staffed by a qualified nurse.

Your donation will pay for the student’s school uniform (blouse/shirt, skirt/shorts/trousers and socks and shoes if needed) as well as school supplies such as text books, notebooks, pens, pencils, back pack. If required, your donation will also cover the cost of a bicycle enabling the student to get to and from school.

As a sponsor you will receive an annual school report and photo and an update on progress from your sponsored student.

  • The student comes from a family experiencing severe economic hardship
  • The student has a caring parent or guardian who values education and will encourage the child while he/she is at school
  • The student is willing to attend school regularly and is determined to try hard to achieve the best possible results
  • The student comes from Elma School Cambodia’s priority target areas
